What causes white PVC plastic to turn yellow?
How can it be prevented?
Just asking, because I got this action figure (made of hard white plastic) which I would like to display on my shelf, but I'm afraid it might begin to yellow after some time. What's a good way to prevent 'yellowing'? what causes it in the first place? Can the process be reversed?

It's deterioration from exposure to ultraviolet light. It's not reversible, but you could sand or polish the surface to remove the deteriorated layers and expose fresh PVC. Avoid exposing the shelf to direct sunlight. Cover the shelf with glass or plastic that filters out UV. That also helps reduce accumulation of dust.
