Halo: Reach Lives Up To Its Hype

If there's one game guaranteed to be keeping people indoors on the cold autumn and winter nights of 2010, it's sure to be Halo: Reach. Released on September 14, this spin off game from the hugely popular Halo series has been hotly anticipated by gamers of all calibres and early reports have suggested that few have been disappointed with its rich game play and intense graphics. The game is the latest in a long line from developers Bungie and is a first person shooter. However, one of the features the game is most lauded for is its complicated multiplayer modes.

Published by Microsoft Game Studio, Halo: Reach is the must have game for the Xbox 360 this year and it was so highly anticipated by gamers that it hit 200 million dollars on its launch day – breaking the record for the series.

The game is set in the year 2552 and slots into the world established by previous games nicely. In Halo: Reach; you take part in events preceding the action in Halo: Combat Evolved. You play as Noble 6, a member of an elite supersoldier squad and it is up to you and your comrades to battle with the alien Covenant to save the human Colony of Reach.

Multiplayer mode is where the game really shows off its new skills however, as there are a new selection of multiplayer modes to get your teeth stuck into – including the slightly gruesome Headhunter – where you collect the skulls of fallen victims to exchange for points, and also Generator Defense, which pits three Spartans against three Elites.

The veto system has also been tweaked a little, slowing you to vote for your preferred game load and map from a few choices and the loadout feature means you'll be able to pick a predefined choice of weapons and armour when spawned. You'll also be able to chose the gender of your Spartan and a new credit system means that you're able to save up credits while completing tasks and missions and spend them on customising your armour – this means that the more you play, the more unique you can look.

This will be the last Halo game from Bungie, as the series has been taken over by 343 Industries - a Microsoft owned company. While Xbox owners may be sad to see the original company leaving the project, hopes are sure to be high when it comes to the Halo series maintaining the edge and staying popular in the future.
