Bleach , by Tite Kubo, has been a phenomenal success in Japan, spawning off a widely popular anime series and video game. The story revolves around a 15-year old high school student by the name of Ichigo Kurosaki, who has the ability to see ghosts. Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami (god of death), accidentally runs into him one day while searching for a hollow (an evil spirit). She is surprised that Ichigo has the ability to see her since ordinary humans cannot. During the fierce fight with the hollow, Rukia is wounded and forced to transfer all of her powers into Ichigo. After defeating the hollow, the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia begin, and together they search for hollows and perform soul burials on lost souls, cleansing the spirits and sending them to Soul Society.
