My dog was hit and killed by kids on atvs, what can I do?

First off thank you for taking the time to read this. On Sunday afternoon my dog was hit in killed two feet from my driveway on my rode by teens on ATV's and dirtbikes going over 70 mph, which are not street legal. After hitting the dog the kids did not even come back up the rode they went through the woods to avoid coming back up. These teens who hit the dog are the sons of a Massachusetts state trooper. The Dartmouth police came here and took down what had happen, he also said that he was going to speak to the state trooper, the teens father. It has been a few days and not even a police report has been written, all they have is a small narrative. My questions is why are they taking the situation so lightly. Is it because they are the sons of a Massachusetts state trooper? Isn't a hit and run against the law? Why haven't these ATV's been confiscated? Why haven't these people been fined there are many loose ends that just aren't adding up.

I'm sorry to hear that... but the truth is animals have few rights on this Earth as humans think they have some "dominion" so don't expect much to happen. The law is generally that your animals should be on your property restrained. But yeah I'm sorry to hear about your dog.
